I know I saw this issue mentioned in another thread, but I can't remember where.

"candidate" status is a far cry from "de-listed"

""BLM officials said Friday afternoon that more policies are on the way and will be added to the BLM’s 2004 National Sage Grouse Conservation Strategy""
The Gillette News-Record: Today (http://www.gillettenewsrecord.com/articles/2010/03/07/news/today/news01.txt - broken link)

= not safe to move IN yet (for energy).

I suspect there will be extreme apprehension on approving new projects(wind), and mitigation for existing (Oil and gas). (JMHO)

Thus a good time to move IN if you are a Sage Grouse Habitat Specialist

Western Watersheds questions decision. (http://www.gillettenewsrecord.com/articles/2010/03/09/news/today/news04.txt - broken link) Surprise, surprise!

BLM didn't say there wasn't a problem; they basically said that if they slapped an endangered species tag on the stupid birds that they'd need to do the same for Wyoming's workers. Of course that's not a concern of the tree huggers.

I personally think the sage grouse's population drop is more the result of the West Niles Virus than anything. I just wish these environmental groups would channel their money toward doing something constructive rather than hiring attorneys to tie up jobs and put hard-working stiffs on the unemployment rolls.

And here's a question I'd like someone to answer for me. Wyoming's governor says he wants the state government, ranchers and industry to take strides in protecting the sage grouse, yet the state Game and Fish Department has no plans to curtail the hunting season or bag limits. They have biologists in every county making deer and antelope counts, and if the herd starts to dwindle they reduce the number of tags given out the next year... but they do nothing about the grouse.

Of course they can't do that.

That might be logical. Sensible. Pragmatic.

We'll be having none of that. Now run along.

Probably a 'union' job, mammal counters can't do fowl. (OBVIOUSLY someONE is counting) not me

coyote got another of my cats last week, dang, just 3 days after I spent the $$ for rabies shots Hope he enjoyed the 'expensive' meal. Stinkin Rats showed up in my woodpile the one yr I went w/o cats. I wish the coyotes enjoyed eat'n rats as much as they do my cats.

I didn't write that earlier post very well. The question about grouse and the Game and Fish is, why doesn't the state put a halt to hunting them, or at least reduce the bag limit or length of the season? I doubt many people hunt them anyway, but it's just the idea. We're fighting to keep our jobs in Wyoming, partly because the sage grouse population is supposedly dwindling, yet for a month each year it's fine for us to go out and shoot a couple of 'em every day. Does that make ANY sense?????
