The graphic show how very small a percentage or Powder River Basin coal goes to the Pacific. Texas gets the biggest percentage, followed by Missouri.

In round numbers 40% of electricity in the nation is generated with natural gas,20% with coal, and 20% with nuclear power.The final 20% is hydroelectric, wind, solar, geothermal and experimental stuff.

The baseline refers to the amount of electricity that is needed day or night regardless of temperature.The variable and peak demands change during the day and especially if weather gets hot.

Coal,and nuclear are particularly well suited for baseline electrical needs, because cost is cheap, capacity percentage is very high.
