Wow- I would take Golden, Co over Wy in a heartbeat! Anyway, you say you want to move 'before you are too old', does that mean you are not a spring chicken and might need routine health care? Remember most of Wy is quite behind in good health care- Casper has excellent medical though. As an RN I would stay away from Cody area if it is important to you. There are some small towns near the Wyoming/Montana border where you could get great medical in Billings,Mt if needed. Those are the only areas I am familiar with. WHY would you leave Golden??!! Best luck.

Why do you say stay away from Cody Wyoming is medical is important to you? I am a RN as well and possibly interested in relocating to Cody. I have heard good things about the hospital, do you a different experience?

If you look under that person's name, it says "Not a member". You have asked a question from somebody that is no longer here.

I've also heard good things about Cody's medical community, although I have no firsthand experience with it. And as the poster (not a member) stated, Billings has a very good medical community, and it's less than 2 hours from Cody. In reality, Cody IS one of those "small towns near the Wyoming/Montana border where you could get great medical in Billings, Mt if needed." (A 2-hour drive isn't far by Wyoming standards.)

Most of Wyoming is fairly rural, so if/when you need highly specialized treatment you may have to go out of state to get it. I had a "huge" brain tumor once and was told by my neurosurgeon that he could only recommend three places in the U.S. that might be able to handle it -- Denver, Minneapolis and Boston. I'm sure there were others, but the point is, there are few places in the country where every medical procedure is possible. The more rural you get, the smaller the chance that everything you may need can be done locally.

People's suggestions so far have been good. I would also say look into Big Piney in southwest Sublette County,at the eastern base of the Wyoming Range, also Dubois.

Cody's medical community has "exploded" in the last few years. The hospital recently finished a major addition/renovation. The Billings Clinic has a very strong presence in Cody and has a clinic here that houses many specialists. They also have visiting specialists that come down from Billings. St. Vincent Healthcare from Billings also has a presence in Cody with a clinic, although Billings Clinic is the major player. Almost every week there are ads in the Cody paper introducing a new specialty doctor to the hospital. Most recently I've noticed a rheumatologist, a couple psychiatrists, another orthopedic, cardiovascular surgeon, and more.
