But, they aren't pronounced the same. Than rhymes with Dan; then rhymes with hen,
You beat me to it. Maybe they are for some, like those people who say "pen" the same way they say "pin". I want to grab them and show them how to open their jaws.
Even the automatic voice on my work phone says, "Inter your ID".
I have always found odd to see how people seem to get than/then wrong.
Maybe is it because they are pronounced the same?
Huh?

I had the same reaction.
Perhaps there is some sort of regional pronunciation that leads some people to pronounce "then" and "than" identically. Just as "important" and "imported" are pronounced identically by many people in the southern states, this could be a similar situation in a particular region.

I saw they are pronounced differently (than with a like "trap" and then with e like "dress"), so I don't know why many anglophones get them wrong.

There are many possible explanations, and in most cases it isn't possible for us to know what led somebody to make a particular type of mistake. I would prefer to think that regional differences in pronunciation are to blame, rather than actual ignorance, but... Quien sabe?
I screen the hell out of the tenants and I don't rent to anyone with a pulse.
