Of the major Anglophone countries, which has the most appealing primary (most populous) province? Which would you choose, for personal reasons? Which one has the scenery, climate, economy, culture, and/or the people you like the most? Which one would you like to live in and/or which one would be great to visit? Which is most representative of its nation? Which is the least representative of its nation?

Could anyone find the poorest city in Ontario that isn’t a reservation?

I think the poorest largish city and the poorest town in Ontario (aside from Indigenous reserves) are at both opposite ends of the southern part of the province.

Windsor (pop. approx. 300,000), which is at the far southwestern end of Ontario, at the US border and across from Detroit, Michigan, is probably the poorest large city in Ontario. Though don't be mistaken: it's not at all like Detroit in terms of its problems.

Almost 900 km away, at the far eastern end of Ontario, the town of Hawkesbury has about 10,000 people and is probably the poorest town in Ontario. It sits about halfway between Ottawa and Montreal.

Looks like NZ is no longer regarded as major Anglo country.... not surprised I guess ... I kind of feel like the government here feels contempt for the concept of Anglo-ness.

Why not include the Northeast US or New England US with its high quality of life, good health and transit access, and high incomes?

It might be too Anglo - Anglo seems a somewhat dirty word these days, imo.

I mean...for brevity's sake, I didn't include it or Ireland. They're both too small.

...because we're talking about official sub-regional divisions like states, provinces, or nation-states. And are you seriously claiming California doesn't have any of those things?

In terms of what, ethnicity? The most "Anglo" states in the northeast would be rural Vermont or Maine. Otherwise, the northeast doesn't have that much English ancestry, a lot of states in the northeast have a predominance of German, Italian, and Polish European ancestry, and a very diverse array of ethnicity and race all the same.

Detroit is a big city, it isn't that bad, especially not nowadays.

No need for such a defensive response. I lived in California for several years. Yes - it spikes on higher ed and natural beauty. I love the state, but it's seriously lacking in K-12 education and transit.

In addition, it tends to lack the proper follow through on policy implementation, which is why government services tend to be much better in the Northeast - the snow still needs to get picked up and the trash cleared.

Of course, California votes similar to the NE/Northeast, but lacks the pragmatism that's key to good government.

My key point here is the USA is such a big country that's why I referenced one other option. California doesn't have the highest HDI in the US. When folks from outside the US talk about the country's problems, they often forget about the very high quality of life in certain parts of the country (like the best of all worlds - high salaries, large markets, good economic opportunity, and a good safety net along with nice nature). Also while "New England" or the "Northeast" aren't official states, they are official government regional classifications.
