I live in a catholic country (Brazil), despite of belonging to other Christian denomination (the Rosicrucian Fellowship), but I would be a minority in every country. But the countries where I would choose for living are also catholic: France, Italy (land of my great-grandparents) and Austria. I also visited Vatican, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.
The catholic countries which I never visited but I would like to visit are: Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Mexico, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Ireland, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia and Belgium. And the Czech Republic, if someone regard it as a catholic country, despite of more than 50% not having religion there.
uruguay has a much higher catholic demographic than 45 - 49 % unless your refering to those who practice, nominally it would be at last 80% like all other latin american countries
Uruguay (2006)
Catholic 47%
Protestant 11%
No religion 40%
Other 2%
France (2011)
Christian 45% (almost all Catholic)
No religion 35%
Islam 3%
Other 7%
Not stated 10%
That's pretty much the same. If you can't consider France a "Catholic country", what's left? I think a much better criterion would be a list based on the country's historical membership to the Catholic religion rather than the actual % that claim to be Catholic today.
Catholic countries?
Only an American would divide countries between "papists" and "protestants", demential.
