Hard to say, some people may be better in am, some in pm. In the past, I used to try to get late morning, say 11am. Didn't want early morning as didn't want to deal with worrying about getting there on time during a rush-hour commute, but in the afternoon sometimes people tend to get tired/sleepy after lunch I also used to avoid Mondays and Fridays if I could (not for myself, for the interviewer).

It really depends on the time slots offered by the employer conducting the interviews. Some prefer early or mid mornings while others want to conduct them in the afternoon. Companies have to fit interviewing candidates into their busy schedules so what works for one employer may not necessarily work for another. I even was invited to an interview at 6pm but I ended up declining as the position was not what I was looking specifically for.
Of course the afternoon because you get a chance to eat and prepare for the interview.
There's no "of course" about it. Breakfast is a good way to start out the morning and you shouldn't need several hours in the morning to prepare for a pre-arranged interview. I meant "you" in the collective general sense but, thinking about who made the comment, there are of course exceptions.
Sometimes you don't have a choice. They tell you X time and you go.
I prefer morning. I don't want to wait all day and get too nervous.
