Actually, it was a Thinkpad, yes. I can send them an email with my best guesses and hope it works, otherwise they're out of luck. I definitely gave them my hard-drive pw on the day I left but they're asking for my Windows pw. Don't know if Lenovo laptops have the same issue w/ Windows pw's as well.

Nah, Lenovo's have a hard-drive password... there is no administrator account if I recall correctly. Or it doesn't override the hard-drive pw. But yeah, they should be able to get the Windows pw on their own.

There is a program that you can read off the codes of the laptop when you go to change that HD password, its a lenovo program, you read the digits to the person on the phone, then they read you back a ridiculously long password to enter and you are in.

A bank I worked at had the same thing, people would forget their HD password often and the help desk reset them often.
