What effect do you think Amnesty for Illegal aliens will have in the Jobs market? With our high UE rate will amnesty increase the competition for jobs since then they(former Illegals) will have the right to work in the US?
Also (ex) foreigners who overstayed their 401b visas would compete for higher end jobs.I am of the opinion that if amnesty passes and with the newly legalized millions of workers, given the state of the economy it would supress wages for years to come in construction, agribusiness and several manufacturing sectors because you would have a flood of workers willing to work for less. And the former jobs that they held would be a strong magnet for even more illegals to come to the US therefore repeating the previous cycles of illegal immigration.
Of course large corporations would benefit from this as the rest of the workforce would feel the repercussions for years to come. I realize I could have posted this elsewhere, but I believe that this issue is more suited to work and employment sections since the Amnesty issue woul greatly effect Work and employment.

On the flip side, you could say that it will have an upward pressure on wages.

I would guess that many or most illegal aliens are already working, but perhaps not getting the prevailing market wage that legal workers get. If an amnesty is granted, they will no longer fear being fired simply for being illegal, and they can ask for more money. With no pool of illegal aliens to draw upon, employers who are paying substandard wages may be forced to pay more.

With more money and security, the illegal portion of the population may also start to put down roots, buy houses, furnish them, and send their kids to school. All of these behaviors generate economic activity, and may boost jobs overall.

I don't really know the answer, but you should consider the option that an amnesty may have benefits to our economy, and you should not simply assume that it will be bad.
