My husband started a new job a few weeks ago, and they require him to get a CDL (class B). There was a week of training . It involves caring for & fueling the busses for public transit. He has failed the CDL written 3 times, and only has one more shot at it. Does anyone have any tips, as if he loses this job, he's out of options in todays economy. He's dyslexic, so the written stuff is difficult for him, especially so much in just a few weeks. I am scared to death, as we have 3 kids, the youngest is 2 w/ cerebral palsy, so I can't work as I care for him.

OK, I had read about that in one of the books. He did GREAT when I asked him the questions & helped him review, he got at least 90% on the tests, so he can't understand why he keeps failing the written. Will see if it's an option in Kansas.

If he is dyslexic, he needs to go to HR and tell them so. They can make special accomodation for him under the ADA for alternative testing, such as taking the test verbally.

BUT--that might not be the end of it. The ADA requires reasonable accomodation. It doesn't require that anyone be given a job they aren't able to do safely. Driving a 28,000 pound dry weight vehicle around is a major responsibility. I'm not sure what FDOT and FTA says about dyslexics who need special accomodation to pass a CDL-B. Unfortunately it could be a deal-breaker. But it's better to try than to not try at all and fail in this case (in my opinion.)

PS--Worst case scenario is that you work and your husband cares for your children.

I love to travel. Trucks - my passion. But I couldn't pass the exam, until I found the same questions and answers that are used in the exam. If interested, sharing CDL Driving Test for CDL Exam
