Don't be a sucker and lend them money. Once shame on you, twice shame on me.
The word is called 'no'...employ it.

Default A co-worker of mine had an interesting gambit...

When met with a loan request, he'd explain that he didn't lend in the workplace - "but if you're that hard up, I'll be happy to give you 10 dollars for lunch." Your average moocher will refuse a straight-up gift - accepting the idea that they need anyone's charity pokes a hole in their internal rationalization.

The hard-core moocher will take the money and never come back - after all, you can only take so many gifts, right? - and the honest hungry Joe would come back on payday and insist on repaying, gift or no gift.

Worked for him.

I only lend money to annoying people, whom I don't want to have to talk to, hopefully ever again. It works like a charm. Seems they fall of the face of the Earth in avoiding me!

It is pretty nuts. We get paid every other week.. and there are people who always complain about bills but come the Monday after payday they come in all decked out with new clothes and hair and shoes... lol..and then complain about being broke again ..

The worst is when one of my managers brought in her credit card statement to work. She has a balance that was 3 months past due and she was getting charged quite a lot of money in fees per month. She had to pay off about $750 and just received a pay check that day for $500'ish. Want to know what she did? She bought a PS3 for her boyfriend because it was his birthday. I just looked at her and said "really?" It's really amazing how some people don't know how to handle money.

Never loan money. To anyone. Ever. Either give it to them or say no.

Why would any 'manager' bring her statement to work and discuss it? Sounds very unprofessional..

We just received a paycheck last Thursday and a guy comes into work today asking someone else to borrow $3.00.

You weren't involved so why do you care?

Somewhere, I think your coworkers are somewhere discussing "Coworkers Who Are Suckers".

Really, stop giving them your money.
