It seems like there is no shortage of TSA jobs out there, especially if you're willing to relocate. What's the deal? Are they being very selective? It seems like the requirements are pretty low, and the pay is decent. Are there just too many people who fail the background/drug/alcohol test?

The application is onerous and very time consuming. The background check is extensive. Then you have to have pretty perfect hearing as well. This excludes a lot of ex-military folks. The test isn't difficult. But it's a process and it takes time. You have to be patient.

When the TSA first started, they had something like 1.5 million apps for 47,000 positions.

It seems in most locations the TSA only hires minorities with highschool diplomas or GEDs. The Government took a $7/hr unskilled job and turned it into a $30k/yr job with benefits, hired the same people to do it, and gets much worse performance in detection of contraband than they did under the previous system.

Government = FAIL

The TSA is an out of control organization that will have far reaching effects on our privacy. It really is pretty scary, and the scariest part is the fact that they are inept. They won't let me take my nail clippers thru security yet there is a crash axe behind my seat. Not the brightest.

I agree 100% with the negative comments, but we really do need logical and coherent people in these positions. It has all the makings of a good job, with the exception of being surrounded by morons who are unfortunately your peers and supervisors. A long time ago I worked for a short period driving a tow truck. It was a miserable position, but people were really happy to have someone who didn't fit the typical profile. I think working for TSA would be similar.

ima poke this dead cow.....

Anyone familiar w/ the candidat dashboard? I'm 'in the running' for a TSO position and waiting for the 'airport assesment' whats that...is that an interview? How hard is it to get this type of job? I'm a minority w/ a GED. How long is this going to take? Do they hire all races? Is it wrong of me to ask these types of questions?

My application went in sept 16, 2009...passed the computer based test and still waiting, any information is appreciated!

The mentality of TSA staff is exactly the same as the rest of the federal agencies that allowed Nidal Malik Hasan to serve in the U.S. Army.

Political correctness will be our death.

Yes. That pesky political correctness. Those concepts such as freedom of religion, all men are created equal, and innocent until proven guilty.

It would be so much better to live in a totalitarian police state and discriminate against people because somebody didn't like their name/color/religion.

That is what makes me proud of this country.
