I got offered a job at a Borders Bookstore once, but never Barnes and Noble tried to get in there but no one would ever call me back.
I think it has to do with being the one to apply at the exact moment they realize they need to hire some more people.

As a bookstore manager, I can say that I receive FAR more applications than I can possibly respond to. For part time work, I probably get 10 applications for every opening. For full time positions, I can get 50 applications per opening.

But the previous poster is correct. Staff needs go up prior to the holidays. For university bookstores, staff needs go up prior to back to school. Apply in Oct/Nov for a trade store. For a university store, apply in the summer 6-8 weeks before classes start.
