Well, I talked to a lady in California around late August and she told me about her niece who received her Masters in Chemical Engineering. Right before she graduated, she received a job offer in Tacoma, Washington where they were willing to pay her $50,000 a year plus a bonus to cover relocation fees, and to top it all off, they were going to give her an additional bonus and 2 weeks vacation to visit her family in California either for Christmas or Thanksgiving (whichever one she chose). It sounds like Washington might be a good place to start if you're into hiking and enivornmentalism. However, last time I checked the job market was a little sketchy in Washington. Still, they might be in desperate need of engineers and they tend to make more money than people in my position. There's probably a ton of communication majors, but not so many engineering majors. I wish you the best of luck!
