Ok so some of you know that I recently started working as a waitress. So far so good. I mean I've had some bad apples concerning people who don't know how to tip at all!!!!! They honestly must think I work for free or something!
I've also had people come in and complain about prices. I mean if you can't afford to eat out, then why bother???? I don't get it..

I'm unemployed. A $7 cheesesteak omelet meal at Waffle House is expensive to me now. So is a 70 cent tip.

If that is expensive, then why are you eating out? Do you know how many omlets you can make at home for $7?

And I really hope you are tipping more than $.70 on a $7 meal...food service employees are paid way below mimimum wage because they rely on tips.

I'm not eating there now. I bought $8 worth of eggs, meat, and cheese and cook my own omelets now.

I was a waitress for ONE day and it was horrible. I was doing it simply to work while my son was at school.

I respect good servers but they have to chase tips to live. They get angry when customers CANNOT leave large tips. I am unemployed and we are living on my husband's pay. We rarely eat out but when we do we try to leave a decent tip. Still I can't afford to leave 'huge' tips to supplement someone working for $2.00 or whatever an hour.

I worked (that one day) with a very angry girl who cut me off at every turn when I spoke to the patrons so she could grab up the tip for the party we were serving. I can't imagine making my living being cut-throat and sucking up to people so they leave a better tip. She had no dignity.

On the other hand, diners should NOT complain to the staff about prices. It's not their fault.

Waiting tables was an excellent experience for me. I think you learn more about people in that job (as well as bartending). It teaches you patience, organization, and how to deal with difficult people. To this day I loathe people who are rude to servers.

I am unemployed and depend on my wife's tips (she is a waitress) for part of our income. Sometimes it's all not that busy so she brings home less. Now with people watching their spending, they aren't eating out as much. Waitressing is hard work, but that's what she likes.

I was raised on taxi driver and waitress income. I worked in diners, Howard Johnson's, and some nicer places in three states.
If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to go out.

A $.70 cent tip is something you can't afford??? Good lord, please stay home and cook your own food.

Even before I was a waitress, I tipped well. Now if I didn't get good service then my tip reflected that and I would expect the same if I didn't serve you well.
