So, I;ve been offered a job at a certain pay level, but also offered in writing a 10 percent raise after six months of "satisfactory full-time employment." While that is in my offer, there is also the clause that I am an "at-will" employee and that the document I sign does not constitute a contract.
Does anyone have experience with these type of things? Are they typically honored or is it just a ploy to get me in the door? I had a verbal promise of a 6-month raise before, which never materialized.
It looks to me as if the company is making it clear that even though you will get a 10% raise after 6 months of satisfactory work, that it is not a guarantee you cannot be dismissed during that time and that the at-will laws of that state are still fully in force.
I had a verbal raise offer before. After accepting a promotion I was supposed to get a raise after 90 days. So, after 3 months I brought it up and they conveniently forgot about the offer.
This company is willing to put it in writing, that's great! The at-will stuff is just the legal mumbo jumbo they put down to cover their butt. So don't let that scare you off.
Sounds like solid proof that it is an employers market out there. Employers know there are hundreds of applicants per job available.
Did you say raise? Nawww only Govt employees and Union workers get raises anymore. Raises are something we will be reading about in history books soon.
Some of the better employers toss a token quarter an hour per year to their best employees. That's about it these days.
