If it makes you feel better, an organization I worked for years ago told everyone that they suddenly needed to work in specified offices in big cities such as Chicago/Charlotte/New York. Most of us lived nowhere near those offices and were hired as 100% remote employees. Most of us took severance and left. Then, you guessed it, COVID hit and they allowed all our replacements to work 100% remotely again.
Such is life, my man. You either suck it up and deal with it or move on. Getting bitter about it is doing yourself no favors.

I guess it had to do with why I was chosen to be removed. It made me feel some type of way like I did something wrong or that the head boss just doesnt like me. But I can't dwell on it too much longer and have to move on. It should be out of my system in another 2 weeks.
4 years at the same job? If you're not loving it then start looking for a new job. Worst case scenario you're stuck at your current job, best case you get a new job you like better OR you re-negotiate with your current employer to change your office location, etc.
Two years ago I applied for a state job because the salary was $20,000 more than what I was making and it had better health coverage. Fast forward two years later and I was suddenly without any notice transfer to a new office which is a longer commute. The area is crime ridden and nasty and I been very upset the past 4 days. Even though I still make the same money I just hate that I have to wake up earlier to go to a undesirable area. And as of now there are no other state positions that interest me enough to apply to so right now Im just stuck in this current position. This should be a lesson to anyone never get caught up in chasing money until you find out what the job is all about.
Even if you know exactly what the job is about......there is and will always be a risk that the company changes some aspect the day after you arrive.
