I am temping part time in an office in the housing sector. A full time position has come up and my colleague wants me to apply. The thing is it is a 35 minute drive and is 19 miles to get to. The annual leave is quite low at 20 days. I wouldn't mind doing the job but don't know if the commute will make me tired over the week and if I should get something closer.
That’s not a long commute. It sounds as if you don’t want the job. Now you are a temp with no benefits or PTO doing this commute with possibly a lower pay rate that a person in this full time role. So apart from the commute and 20 days off which is pretty standard, there must be something else going on.
That commute is a piece of cake. Try only working 8 miles from the office but taking over 45 minutes to get there due to horrible rush hour traffic. Ahh, the joys of living in the Baltimore-Washington corridor.
If you are actually concerned about a 35 minute commute, then you really shouldn't take the job.
Also, 20 days (4 weeks) annual leave is not "quite low." Two weeks is usually the standard for new employees.
Why remain in a temporary job? A full-time job with time off, a reasonable commute, and benefits is worth taking.
