As U.S. employers’ search for hires increases in urgency—especially in the manufacturing, logistics, healthcare and food-service industries—truck drivers, hotel cleaners and warehouse workers are being offered signing bonuses of hundreds and even thousands of dollars.
Nearly 20% of all jobs posted on job search site ZipRecruiter in June offer a signing bonus, up from 2% of jobs advertised on the job search site in March... Job postings across sectors show that a $1,000 hiring bonus is quickly becoming table stakes in recruiting hourly workers who make between $16.50 and $25 an hour. The $1,000 hiring bonus is advertised on jobs listed for apartment-complex groundskeepers in Texas, movers in Florida, cabinet makers in Georgia, housekeepers in Wisconsin, pool cleaners in New Mexico and welders in Ohio, among others.
Examples in the article include:
Pilgrim’s Pride (poultry processor): $1,500 signing bonus
Harrison Poultry: $2,500 signing bonus (paid out over a year)
Burger King: $1,500 hiring bonus at one location in Latrobe, PA
A Charlotte pest-control job: $1,200 bonus.
A Gulfport diesel mechanic: $1,500 bonus.
A forklift operator job in Gainesville, Ga.: $2,000 bonus.
Seems kind of unfair to those of us who are already working and have been for years. Where's my bonus.
I've thought the same. Temps coming in get a "bonus" (from agency every month they stay) company doesn't give to poops. They even get close to what many of us already make. But whatever, I've got one year left.
Meh not ready to start applying for new jobs. It really is a process. For the job I have now I had to provide 5 references.
The one thing that seems easier about applying for jobs now is that everything is online. Seems like the days of showing up at the company for interviews are over.
The trend in my area: manufacturing/production. Job hop.
They pay the incentive after working two full weeks ...at rather decent hiring pay.
Person collects, quits. And repeats .
Come September our manuf/production assoc. Already confirmed ,- once we have our back orders complete. Access our quarterly trend . Most of these new hirers may be released . Then those dear hoppers will be back on the streets. With a smidge of dismay...that no one will hire them. And no unemployment benefits.
