Feeling guilty and confused

You cannot provide the level of service needed for CVICU. As I am someone who has been a patient on the cardiac ICU, I implore you not to go back there. If you need extra help with the patients, you are hindering the purpose of ICU and providing subpar care to the patients that need it most. Go somewhere you can do the job better and provide better care to your patients.

Exactly. Unfortunately many ICU's don't practice this . Many ICU's have all kinds of unfit staff as well as they are understaffed. It's scary.

At my workplace (a long term care centre) whoever is pregnant, everybody says "she's pregnant, don't give her a heavy lifting job." And anyone who is pregnant can be off anytime with a doctor's note, no problem. And that person can have many months off (sick leave with 100% pay of course) before the baby is born. And then one year off from the day she gives birth. Pregnant women are queens. :-)

One year off after giving birth??? OMG where do you live? We get 2-3 months off and then back to work.
I transferred to less physically demanding floor, and I liked it but it is definitely a step backwards for me. More independent patients for sure but the floor itself is huge with tons of walking (but that doesn't bother me). Have to choose your priorities, I guess.
