I just want to comment, during negotiations, we had daily calls. These are very quick responsive people. They contacted my references within 24hours of me sending it to them (actually less), they move fast, that's why 2-3 full days of no response is a bit odd
Well, something strange could have happened. Maybe someone there had some kind of personal emergency... No way to know..
But... Just see what happens into next week... If you don't hear by by Wed, then maybe call and ask if there are any problems...
Are you assuming it's the references because you expected an immediate response and can't think of any other reason? Or deep down are you concerned that one of the references said something that is not consistent with what you have said? Did you fudge at all on anything like job titles or fluff up your job duties?

Good question, I expected an immediate response but now the fluff part could be problematic. For example, I can think of 1 reference, manager, where he may disagree with my current job title because he left the company before I transitioned to another role. Therefore, he has no idea what my new salary nor responsibilities are if that makes sense. I wouldn't say that's fluff but can be a cause of inaccuracy IMO
Real question is if this really is an issue would they contact me and ask or let me know they are taking back offer? Or just silent treatment?

Wow you need to chill. So many things could be happening with the company making a delay for your offer! You’re completely overreacting in my opinion.
You're jumping to conclusions. There's no proof that any of the references said anything bad. If any were to say anything bad I would think they would not have agreed to be a reference.
So they didn't *tell* you this was the reason? You're just guessing? (I would imagine that someone would decline to be your reference at all if they thought they would have to say negative things about you.)
As many others have said... could be many reasons. Maybe you're their second choice and they're waiting to hear back from their first choice. Maybe they have other things in your background that they're checking right now. Maybe now that everything for you checks out, there are levels of management and HR who need to approve your employment offer. Maybe they're working on drawing up your offer letter. Maybe someone somewhere dropped the ball in moving this forward and it's sitting on their desk or an email got lost in their inbox, or they didn't do something they were supposed to before they went on leave, or something was forwarded to the wrong person and now they're busy playing the "I don't take care of this, ask Bob" "No not mine either, maybe Mary..." Maybe they had a Covid outbreak in the office. Maybe a hiring budget fell through or got put on hold or hit a snag. Maybe the person you were supposed to replace suddenly changed their mind about leaving. Maybe somebody's office FWB was slotted into the job last-minute. Etc. etc.
Well it's 10pm on Friday night and got an email saying all the conversations went well and they just need a couple more minor logistical info, for only legal reasons, before they send the written offer...
I'd add that "reference checks" are generally limited to just verifying dates of employment, salary, and that you're not a sociopath. Unless you were fired for cause, I wouldn't stress too much yet.
Verifying employment is different than the 3 people you put to vouch for you as a co-worker. I have been used as a reference many times and they ask questions such as "how do you think she handled stress" etc.
