so I would like to apply for a job in auto sales but since my discharge from the military over 7 years ago and have worked mostly driving jobs in between since, how would I document my relative experience as a recruiter at over 6 years?
In general, resumes are typically presented in two ways - chronological, or functional. Chronological is the more common method where you list your accomplishments in chronological order with your most recent job first.
You can also do it functionally where you highlight the relevant skills to the job you're applying to. But those skills may not be something you are currently using.
You can google or example and more detailed descriptions.
This may or may not apply to you. But you can also google for examples of executive resumes which sort of combine both. In many cases, the bulk of a resume is the job listing. But if you look at senior/high level resumes, the job listing is just that, a listing towards the bottom of the page.
The bulk of it is the accomplishments. Of course, your accomplishment may be more descriptive in that positive. Saying you "increased revenue by 80% to 50 million annually..." or "decreased operating costs by $5 million annually" is likely going to be more impressive than "filled 95% of assigned request tickets within 24 hours". But the format can still apply. You can certainly highlight the accomplishments you've had first. Then list your jobs below.
