Being a foreigner I experience it all the times, but still try very hard not to go into any political (or religious) debates. Especially when I sense their attitude gives no room for compromises or even a civilized discussion.

I worked in the public sector. Depending upon the last election, we could be working for one side or another or both, and they all sprinkled in a few new employees as patronage favors. It was best to keep your mouth shut as to your opinions.

I have known a couple of employees who took sides in the election of their bosses. When the "wrong" candidate won, they ended up losing their jobs.
