If he does find another job and gives notice, don't be surprised if his current org comes back with a counter offer to keep him.

I would make some noise about this and not let it go.

Best of luck.

Those bonuses probably only came available recently due to the closures (i.e. the extra money became available, that wouldn't have been there when you moved).

I might be unpleasant timing, but I don't see why you're acting as though your husband and the others moving are exactly the same, because they're not. Maybe too the numbers speak for themselves. The many who waited might have done the right thing all along.
Unfortunately this. It really sucks, but the difference is that then it was optional... if an employee didn't like the deal, they could just decline. Now, if the company is closing the offices, they can't give people the choice to keep things as they are currently, so they need to come up with some nice incentives to get people to agree to it. They have maybe decided that all these incentives will cost them less than having everyone quit and having to hire new people. It still sucks, but, there's probably not much you can do about it.

Did the company not pay for your move when you moved there to begin with?

i think the difference was that your husband was offered relocation at his leisure; whereas, everyone else had no choice but to inconvenience their familys lives to relocate in the middle of the sckool year in the middle of a pandemic.

He's not relocating. His company is not asking him to move and never asked him to move. He already works in one of the states to which other employees are moving. He decided last year to move and WFH. His convenience; his choice.

Nothing shady about it. Just rotten timing. Add to list of covid consequences.

Yes I agree with this. To be able to move to another state, hopefully to a better state/location, and work from home was a nice little perk last year. And it was optional. Now no one has a choice. Packing up and moving to a new state is stressful on a good day. I know, I've done it enough. But relocating in this mess? I would want additional money too. Besides, if they are closing a building money must be a little tight. Why pay out $10,000 if they don't have to?
