So, here goes and I will just be brief as possible and I know you guys can't tell me what is going on but I am looking for ideas because it seems strange to me.

So we recently got a new CIO for TS. My dept. is a division of Tech Services, but we are housed in a completely different building so we don't see other staff on a day to day basis.

Recently an email was sent out for "workivisaries." I have had a total of 9 years with the company but took a 1 month break. On the email my workivarsy was listed as 1 yr. So, the CIO emails me (keep in mind I am a low support staff person) and says he sees that I have worked here a lot longer than 1 year and asks me to share my story.

I know most people would be happy, but this was strange to me because I am wondering how did he get the information that I had been a long term employee. He basically wanted me to share every position I ever had.

The second thing that happened is his admin called last week. She is as cold as ice. Has never been friendly at all, and all of a sudden she is calling me to chat and does it for nearly "30 minutes" not like her at all.

The third thing is that one of the managers sent out an email to myself and the other lowly support people
that he misses us and can't wait to be back in the office and is thankful for all we do. (again we work in diff. departments so he NEVER sees me.

Yes, I could sound very paranoid, ( I am) but I have worked at the top with other execs. and usually when this starts other things tend to follow.

Does anyone have an opinion on this? Of course I know you guys don't know what he is thinking, but I have seen several question asking about certain behaviors at work that indicate outcomes. Thoughts?

It sounds like the CIO wants to create a more welcoming, team environment. He's got access to your employment records, so it's not like that's strange, and from what you've said, they're trying to make sure you get credit and kudos for your tenure in the workplace.

Perhaps the new CIO is one of the rare breed who actually gives a crap about his workers. Attitude starts at the top and perhaps you're seeing different behaviors from subordinate managers because he expects different behavior from them.

New management usually equals changes, they could be cultural, process or other staff (mid-level management etc) changes. Hard to say exactly what’s going on.

My thoughts as well.

I'll play the devil's advocate here...

You have been there 9 years. You notice suspicious behavior. Something is up.

I would like to know about the one month break. When was it?

About a year ago. Technically, it wasn't a break but a termination. I just didn't want to say it outright because it was a short period of time.

Termination? Was it a layoff or something else. If something else, perhaps this manager wants to figure out why you were rehired.

Noooo, a non disciplinary dismissal. "Incapacity."
