My back is killing me with the cheap Staples chair i bought. I need the stiffer lumbar support, fully adjustable armrests.
I know theres lots who rave about the Herman Millers, Steel case chairs. There is also Humanscale and Teknion.
i hear about the Herman Miller Aeron and Steelcase Leap V2. there is alsso the Steelcase Gesture.
Who has comfy office chair and can tell me about them?
I have a Staples story!
I tested out all the chairs in Staples and found the perfect one. So I bought one and had Staples assemble it. It hit completely differently than the display model, and for some bureaucratic reason they could not give me the "perfect" display model.
Please confirm that you are taking home THAT chair when you select and decide to purchase. Don't end up like me.
Not sure what budget range you're shopping but I'll provide a high and a low.
For budget buys I've found many comfortable examples at Transit Damaged Freight type stores. So much so that I regret not being able to buy multiple different ones.
For "whatever it takes" money, come up with a checklist for your fantasy chair before searching, it will help you narrow it down in the last stretch of decision-making.
But I know that it would be a non-starter if it completely dropped the ball on any one of my deal-breakers:
- Must be able to lock out recline/tilt (laugh, but you'd be aghast at the number of $300 chairs that miss this)
- Arms must raise to meet (and support) at the elbows
- No mesh! Terrible for lumbar, and mesh creates a weird itching sensation after awhile. Leather is preferred, but I'll take something synthetic and harder wearing on the arm rests
- A nice mid-back is all I need, I never use the pillow or headrest on the highs, but support at the shoulders feels nice after a long day.
The problem with trying to get an office chair in these times is that when I'm trying to buy one I spend a lot of time trying them out, which is not recommended during a pandemic. I wouldn't buy an office chair without being confident that it was very comfortable.
I'm considering going into my office to bring mine home.
SO picked his chair and electronics up and established his home office. He refused to buy a desk but built a basic table according to his needs. Very basic. When he knows if this will permanent I may get a standing desk and he will inherit mine which is basically and oversized table with key board pull outs. Finally a use for the Google TVs from the downsizing - additional screens
If your back is killing you that means you're not standing up and walking around enough. A chair doesn't alleviate back issues, it's the weakness of the spine your core area that needs strengthening. Consider daily exercise that includes walking, standing, squats, and jump ropes. You can buy a $1-10k chair and it's not going to fix the issue by sitting on your butt I guarantee that.

Before I found my perfect Tempurpedic chair at Staples, I went to Costco, but all of their chairs were displayed on an upper shelf and chained in place so you could look at them but not sit in them. Where's the sense in that?

I should have done this as well but I didn't know and now it's too late because we're in lockdown in MA.
I'm using my loveseat as my work chair, and my back is totally killing me. In fact, yesterday I just stayed in bed all day because my back hurt, and I had a horrible headache.
I bought a used Body Bilt at a used office furniture place, and it's been great. $250 for a chair that retails new for $1500. I had one before at work, so already knew it would be good. I've also had Steelcase Leap and Herman Miller Aeron chairs at work, and would be happy with any of them too.
Look for used office furniture places where you live, and you should be bale to find something far better than what is sold at the office supply stores. You can also find a wide variety of desks and workstations, including sit/stand desks.
