I began interviewing with a company back in November, everything was going great. The very end of last year I was laid off, and continued to interview with this company. I had my finalist interview a couple days into January and they were supposed to make their decision within that week.

At the time for some reason I didn’t say anything, I am kicking myself right now! Needless to say they ended up going through a re-organization and the decision still has not been made and making an offer. How can I approach them to let them know that I was laid off? Or should I just keep silent?

Don't mention the lay off, but maybe a quick email just following up and letting them know you are still interested.

Definitely don't mention being laid off. That is really none of their business. Their business is if they want to hire you or not.

Agreed. Say nothing unless they specifically ask.

I don't get why this is a pickle......you're under no obligation to tell anyone what your employment status is unless you're specifically asked to put it down in writing for their background check. If and when you get an offer, if you have already filled out an application that is the time to let them know. If they aren't asking for an application and are only doing a background check then you are totally fine. This is one of the reasons I do not put down months in my resume "Company ABC 2011-2017" and leave it at that.

Why would you want to volunteer this information?

don't know why this is a "pickle" situation; your being laid off is not relevant at this point; they either have an open position they will be filling or not. hopefully you've kept interviewing with others, depending on the extent of reorg their plans could be quite different.

Plus they would have already received a resume that said xx/xx to Present.

However, if OP gets to the point of a formal application - if not already done - the correct end date needs to be entered.

Do not mention you are unemployed. Employers discriminate against the unemployed.

If they don't ask, don't tell.
