I once worked for a big computer company division. The Department head was promised a big bonus at the end of the year if he met his sales goal of $121 million. Well, at year end, we were $7 million short and I was ordered to make some accounting entries that actually borrowed sales from the next year, and I made a number of accounting entries that pushed the sales slightly over $121 million. Boss got his bonus, and? The sales didn't come in as projected, only cost of sales, and by summer, 200 of the employees of my division lost their jobs.

I don't want to ever go through that again, and what was I to do?

At the LTC/Rehab facility I worked in for 17 years, nothing was recycled and imagine all the waste that's generated in one day there! I asked why, and I was told it was contaminated, so no recycling!

The elderly person they called had to pay them before they would "buy out" the time share which made no sense to my daughter.

She quit, went to the cops.

A few months ago the cops told her they shut them down because of her; more elderly people weren't going to be losing their savings.

Default Been there and quit

1. Worked for the gov't when I just got out of college. My job (unbeknownst prior to taking the job) included bringing my managers coffee. The job didn't last long .
2. Worked for a software upgrade in a major city. Other managers and I agreed if the managers
of this project didn't shape up in six months, we'd leave. We left. Project was beyond nuts and I've had
nuts before and stayed.

You should have refused to make the entries, or contacted the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors, since that's fraudulent accounting.

A predatory tow truck driver. Not the kind that you call AAA but the ones that drag your car from a mall, impound it and charge you 500 bucks to get it back.

I have a brother who is a veterinarian in the "real world"-- as opposed to the fantasy sold to 16-year-olds who fantasize that they will spend their careers dealing with puppies and kittens in an upscale suburban practice. Having grown up on a dairy farm and raised two calves for livestock shows (after which they went into the herd and were sold for meat a few years later), he knew what to expect in vet school .... unlike the aforementioned prince(sses) who turn up their little noses at the thought of donning a shoulder-length rubber glove and exploring the south end of a northbound cow, horse, or bull.

But to continue the story, with a little help from the county Agricultural Extension Office, he met a woman who harbored the same dreams, and the took to going out unto the field together, Nickie learned what the real world of veterinary medicine is like, but the romance grew anyway.

At any rate, after her graduation, the two vets tried to set up an independent practice -- but a sufficient amount of business just wasn't there. And their recently-born son was showing the sins pf what would turn out to be severe autism.

The Department of Agriculture (USDA) always has openings for displaced veterinarians, if qualified. But these positions are in slaughterhouses -- chicken plants at first, then on to the messy, stinky, sometimes-disturbing parts of the production of steak and hamburger. And these places usually recruit their blue-collar employees from the bottom of the societal barrel. But medical benefits for skilled Federal employees are top-of-the-line, an important consideration for a special-needs child -- who will always remain a child.

During a three-month "tryout" with Amtrak while in my forties, I encountered a similar disconnect -- drawn by the opportunities for isolation and lower stress that characterizes most railroading jobs, I was nevertheless directed toward a "nerve center" in the heart of the asphalt jungle. And in situations like the two described so far, the easiest path to career suicide is to try to build a wall around your job preferences.

just out of curiosity, what would be your plan? A hotel with a pool?

After the cognitive dissonance I experienced realizing what killed my daughter & brain damaged my son, as an RN; I will never administer another v.a.c.c.i.n.e.

If that was you who was on all fours in the hallway of Saint Mary Corwin Hospital with a 2 year old boy who was seizing & quit breathing after being v.a.c.c.i.n.a.t.e.d., just 7 months after being unable to resuscitate your own daughter, who had just been v.a.c.c.i.n.a.t.e.d.? You might agree. First, do no harm.

RN's are allowed to opt of participating in abortions & if not; that would be a deal breaker for me as well.

My last company wasn't a problem, but we did have some clients that were questionable. Very wealthy or corporate types, some of which were embroiled in controversy.

Liquor store, porn store, media, any place thats open late and will force me into compromising situations with degenerates.

Basicly any commoditized vise. High end vices where you can very tightly control your clientel as the employee might be ok (such as a pot shop thats closes before the wierdos come out)
