An $18/hour base salary translates to $37,440 based on 2080 hours per year.

Same, if not more in the NYC/CT (Fairfield county) area, and I know co-workers doing it who earn less than you, but they get commission, so. I'm not sure how much longer I'll last here on my salary.

One bedroom units around here go for $3k, and that's for modest apartments.

What state do you live in?

In FFC? You can find a decent 1 bedroom for around 1800 a month. I had a luxury 1 bedroom, with about 1100 sq feet and I was paying 2300 a month, IN FFC (and I'm talking pretty south of Fairfield, on the shore.) You are paying way too much for where you live.
