I'm a public librarian in the Bay Area, and earn right around $80K - which sounds good, until you realize our average rents (on a ONE bedroom) are over $2000/mo.
Same, if not more in the NYC/CT (Fairfield county) area, and I know co-workers doing it who earn less than you, but they get commission, so. I'm not sure how much longer I'll last here on my salary.
One bedroom units around here go for $3k, and that's for modest apartments.

In FFC? You can find a decent 1 bedroom for around 1800 a month. I had a luxury 1 bedroom, with about 1100 sq feet and I was paying 2300 a month, IN FFC (and I'm talking pretty south of Fairfield, on the shore.) You are paying way too much for where you live.
