Is it considered common courtesy for your manager to take you out for lunch on your first day? In my ten years of wiring I've had 3 managers buy me lunch and 2 that didn't.

I've had it happen about 1/4 of the time. I have also had interviews at a lunch or dinner that were paid for by the hiring managers.

I have never been treated to lunch by a new boss, nor bought lunch for a new hire in my many years as an employee and manager.

I only remember a manager buying me lunch on my first day once, although it is possible this happened for some other jobs. It was years ago, so who remembers these details.

I usually buy my new hires lunch at some point during their first week, but not always.

It happened to me on this job. They were buttering me up in an attempt to mislead me into thinking this job is a good one. In reality, it's a crappy job with meh pay, a lousy schedule, and a tween manager who's half my age and on a power trip. I've only worked here two months and I'm already looking for something else.

I usually buy lunch at least once during the first week. It's helpful to break bread with team members and learn a little about what makes them tick. That said, sometimes I've regretted finding out things - people are weird!

Well I can assure you, hospital management never gives RNs anything for free.
