Daughter worked in high profile salon at the front desk for two years. Manager was always yelling at her about the till being short but wouldn't do a count of cash in the till at beginning of her shift. Finally daughter quits because of this, tired of getting yelled at but not being able to count the till at the shift start. Daughter went unemployed for a year until another salon hired her. The new owner told her that she, the owner, had worked previously for daughters previous manager and didn't like it. Then told daughter that previous manager at high end salon lied and gave a terrible reference about daughter but new owner didn't believer her and hired daughter.
So daughter happy working at new salon. I am miffed that this manager is telling tales about her beyond time employed. Then breaking news, the old manager at the high end salon has been arrested for embezzlement of huge amount of money over many many years. Arresting officers find $300,000 cash in her home tucked here and there!
Now I think daughter should tell previous owners about previous managers shady behavior yelling at daughter about till being off all the time and tarnishing daughters name in an effort to cover her behind no doubt and create plausible doubt at the time.
Are you asking if your daughter should contact her previous work place's owner to let them know of the slander reference?
If so, why? What good would that do? The offending party, the manager, has been arrested for embezzlement. That manager, with an arrest record, is hardly in any position to be offering references in the future.
I'm just curious why you think your daughter needs to tell the previous owner. Again, what purpose does that serve? Your daughter has already moved on and is making the best of her current situation. Let her be.
It's just so annoying to think of all the great jobs that daughter applied for and didn't hear back, she couldn't find a job for a year. Even when a relative arranged an interview for her. She has always gotten hired before this happened. I feel like suing the high end salon because the lying manager prevented her from getting a job for a year. True, she has moved on but it just all seems so wrong.

Any ideas?
Move on with life...This is out of the salon's hands and being investigated by the police, you really want to jump in the middle of an embezzlement investigation? Truth be told, nobody is going to care what your daughter has to say, the salon or the police, focus on going forward, not what happened in the past.

YOU can't sue anyone regarding what may or may not have happened to your daughter professionally. She may attempt a lawsuit, but she would need the testimony of the hiring managers of the other jobs to say that is specifically why she wasn't hired. You aren't going to get that.
