ITALY (KABC) -- Italy could soon become the first Western country to offer paid menstrual leave to women who experience painful periods.
The country's parliament is considering legislation that would require companies to offer women three paid days off each month.
Critics are concerned the law would make some employers think twice before hiring women. However, supporters say it will make employers happier and more comfortable.
I think this is a great idea! Women shouldn't have to miss pay or risk losing their job just because of that time of the month.
Can they get paid 6/7th of what a man does, doing the same work the WHOLE month?
Then maybe we'd get equal pay, right?
If women want expect equal rights, then I'm for this law ONLY if the woman has an actual medical condition that a doctor verifies and will write a Rx for the 3 days off. Since some women do have debilitating periods, I get this, but I'm sure the other 90% of women will abuse it and then we'll see more sex discrimination. Otherwise, this just sets women back even more asking for MORE special treatment (y'know, because women can have maternity leave too and not all places have paternity leave).
That I should insane. I am sure there are a handful of women that really can't work. I have had this maybe twice in my lifetime and am happy to call out sick. This is overboard!

The wage gap myth has been debunked over and over and over. again and again. There is no wage gap. Women make very different job choices while working, choose different jobs (flex jobs), take years off and sometimes switch careers completely. When all factors are taken into account women are their own enemy because they refuse to negotiate salary upfront, which when repeated over 15 years of employment means way less in salary.
Don't want to derail the thread, but couldn't just pass by this myth.
What about older women who have passed menopause and no longer menstruate? How about younger women who don't menstruate for whatever reason? And hey -- what do you do about transgender women who will never menstruate? Or transgender men who are biological women with periods?
