Hi everyone! I would like to know if there are any Virtual Assistants out there - and how you got started. I would love to be able to work from home, but all I see is scams or jobs that only want to pay $9 an hour. I know I won't get my usual salary for being in the office (I am now an Executive Asst), but I'd still need something reasonable. So .....are you out there? How do I get started? I hear about it all the time, but have yet to see the proof these positions exsist.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
I actually researched this type of job myself and found the best way to get info. was to contact the VAs directly.
There are several associations that many belong to one is ivaa.org, I would start off by visiting the websites of the members. At least you then can see what services they offer and their fees. I then would just call them and ask them questions about their profession. I have done this myself several times and usually try to call people out of state (just in case they mainly target locals) and most people are willing to give you the information you need.
I am very interested in starting a VA business of my own, as well. I'm still in the researching stage, but from what I've learned so far, this would be an ideal business for me. I've been in the support services profession for 30 years, and have been an executive assistant for the past 18. I'm ready to have my own business and work from home. Any advice or information that anyone can offer with regards to "breaking into the biz" would be very much appreciated!
I'd like to know what most VAs are doing as far as legally establishing their business - corporation, LLC or sole proprietor? Which is best for a home-based business with no employees other than yourself?
When I was unemployed I did two VA jobs, both were jsut one-off's. One paid $70 for work that took me about three hours, the other was about $200 for a project that took about 12 hours or so.
I will claim the money as a sole proprietor on my taxes.
I found both jobs through a site that allows you to "bid" on the work. Both were web development jobs that required knowledge of CSS and javascript.
