It's not dead end, it's just that I don't want the headaches or responsibilities that come with management. So I had to accept being capped out as an hourly employee.
I can't figure out if you're being serious or not.
I'm serious. My initial response was from the mindset of someone with no baggage to carry around. When you pointed out that people who have families can't just do what I did to change career, I agreed.
I know most people will argue to the death before they admit they were wrong about something. I'm not one of them.
Would you rather I go all Donald Trump on you regarding this topic?

Yea Salaried Exempt management positions don't sound like much fun these days. At my company they all work 12 plus hour days. Is the extra money even worth it?
While I only work two 6 hour days a week it could become more than an hourly wage clerical type job if I wanted it to but right now I'm good with the 12 hours a week. When it's slow I try to learn new things so that I keep my options open.
If a job pays well with decent benefits and you don't hate it just think of it as a means to an end.
Yes I am in a dead end job and have no desire to change that. I am well past the point where I could retire. I work alone and have no stress. I get along well with the owners. Certainly not getting rich but it gives me something to do.
My job is the definition of dead end. However, it pays my bills and allows me to devote large sums of money on my hobbies. If I ever grow weary of working a dead end job, I will go elsewhere, but for the time being, this is working out well enough.
What sort of dead end job is it that pays so much?
Currently make the best of this dead end job. Beats being starving and homeless....which I was 24 hours away from happening.
Love the cute remark..." get a different job then!". Really...what a novel idea! After 47 interviews and over 2000 miles put on my car for these rejection interviews... I've come to feel somewhat safe to say...the hiring process and the cronies aren't hiring for my years of skills.
My job is dead end, but I LOVE it!! I'm an insurance agent who works for the owner of the agency. There is no office manager so no promotion there. There is literally no advancement possible. The only thing I could do to adavnce my career would be to open my own agency, which I have NO desire to do. With that said I'm perfectly happy in my position because:
1. I work from home! This in itself is HUGE!
2. I basically work my own hours, my job is VERY flexible!
3. I get paid hourly plus commission and my base is FANTASTIC!
4. I can increase my earning as much as I want through commission.
5. The agency owner is a great boss! He truly cares about his employees.
For someone late 30s and basically starting over, would you recommend going to work for a scratch Allstate agency for 1750 base/month plus commissions? Given that probably 95% of startup agencies fail?
