I just took a casino security position, which is a job I am dreading. I have been applying to various places for the past several months. I was recently phone interviewed for a receptionist job at a bar association, but its only part time but pays 4 more dollars an hour than the security job so it evens out pretty well. My college degree is legal assistant. The casino job takes $250 dollars total out of your first 7 paychecks to pay for a gaming license. I'm working security lol so that seems like robbery to me.

Anyways, the bar association job told me they will start interviewing in person next week. If I am interviewed and am offered a position, will this look bad to the bar association if I jump ship on the casino job where orientation starts this coming week? I hope I didn't make a mistake by putting this casino job on my resume and resubmitting it to the bar association. The reason I did this was because I was unemployed for 7 months prior to accepting the casino job and figured they'd be more likely to hire me as my resume shows I'm employed but haven't started the new job yet. I explained to the bar association that I am looking for a job that better suits my qualifications so hopefully they understand.

You always leave placeholder jobs for your primary career if something comes up. It is completely understandable and the vast majority of people won't hold it against you.

Good luck. Paralegal is a better career field.

Does it look bad to whom?
To the casino? Probably, but it's not a career job now is it? And you wouldn't have them on your resume or as a reference so ...
To the Bar association? I'd think that if the potential job is in your field of study, then it's a moot point.

So what's best for you! I did that myself, took a menial job and had a day of paid training, then got the job I wanted before starting. The pay for the latter was in my field and 3 times the pay with benefits, no hesitation on the decision.
