I basically sit 80% of the day. I can read, mess around on the computer, etc so long as the work is done correctly.
My take home pay is around 48K. The commute is minutes, and it's the easiest, most stress free job I've ever had. Not what I consider great in terms of pay, but for what little I actually have to do, it's not bad. The downside is, the job itself is quite boring and doesn't stimulate the mind. I'm definitely utilizing problem solving abilities, which I consider important. The job is just plain boring though.
I was thinking of starting a business on the side. Jobs aren't stable, but at least with my own business, I will be able to control my destiny a little better.
I've been going to many, many interviews. Nobody want to offer more money. Only whine and cry about nobody taking their low paying, high skill jobs. So I just smile, nod my head and part ways. It has been very educational learning about the diverse industries that exist in my area. I am certain that I could take their operations to new levels of efficiency, but not for <$20/hr. These people are crazy.
I think it's time to be content and plan for the future. Forget about interviews for jobs that will suck all my energy away. Sound like a reasonable strategy?
It sounds like the perfect situation if you want to start working on a side business, couldn't get any better. Best wishes.
I would rather not start a business. It's just, the businesses here are in poor shape and suck. I personally think Michigan is a bad state to run a business.
My husband and I both work full time and do pretty well. Doesn't stop us from pursuing other things - we are in the process of forming an LLC to create a brand and sell products that we think will be pretty popular to a niche market. We're not looking to become billionaires, but a few thousand extra dollars per month after taxes could be quite nice. Between the two of us we'll each spend about 10 hours each to build the business initially, which isn't too time/labor intensive. And if it takes off, bully for us - I'll quit my job to focus on it full-time, and he'll remain in his job since he's the main breadwinner. If it doesn't take off, oh well - we tried and still have our permanent jobs.
