This question is for people who work in corporate America and are doing very well. You have been promoted many times and are making lots of money and have lots of interesting responsibilities.
HOW DID YOU GET THERE?
I asked an old friend from High School how he was so successful. He is just about to retire after a very- very successful career in a Fortune 500 Corporation where he spent his entire career. He was promoted over a dozen times and now is a Senior Vice President overseeing a huge division of hundreds of workers.
He told me it had little to do with his education, or hard work but instead he was just talented at what he did and working within the corporate hierarchy. It was similar to someone who was a great athlete, singer, dancer or comedian. He just had it.
Are you very successful? Why? Do you just "have it?" Or was it the old stand by- hard work?
Working within the corporate hierarchy = straight white guy who likes to play golf, smoke cigars, chase women half his age, and make other dudes feel like studs.

Someone's been watching too much Caddyshack over the holiday's.
It is all about networking! You can be the most talented person but you will not get a corporate job until you network. I am the youngest project manager in my corporate without PMP, MBA or any prior experience. I got my job because of hard work and I knew high level executives. They were impressed with my work and really liked my personality so they made me an offer. Find a way to get in touch with top guys and you will get the job
In most companies, it's a combination of being a workaholic and being a buttkisser.
I find the opposite in good companies. Just working lots of hours is going to only get you so far. I am talking about people who have moved up to the Vice President level in large companies. While a few have slipped through the cracks and got there because they knew someone or kissed some XXX, business needs would not allow the entire senior management team to move up without serious talent.
