.I deleted my Facebook, but I am on Twitter and Instagram. I know them well, but I'm an expert with Instagram. Also, I am very good with Pinterest. I also blog (my blog is listed on my profile here) and do get paid a bit for my blog.
I would try for social media jobs??? Maybe start with a small business near you that may need social media help. Even if you can't get paid, an idea is to at least volunteer maybe at your library job to help with social media outreach. Or start with a marketing plan to increase the number of library patrons. I hope you can see where I am going with this. This way you will have quantifiable proof of your social media and marketing skills
The thing is with a LA degree you need to have experience to back that degree up. The person with an engineering or bio-chem major can easily get an entry level position for a firm and one with experience can get the job where they want and perhaps with higher pay.
Colleges and high schools need to inform students more on the job world and gear them up with internships. Some kids don't have a clue because their parents never went to college and no adult stepped into to tell them right from wrong (like me).
The problem is, too many young people do not look at the demand and pay for different degrees. They want something that sounds like fun to study, or is an easy program leaving a lot of time to party. They have the mistaken impression, that if they have a college degree they can pick and chose a job they think would be fun, and would be able to start at over $100,0000 per year.
When someone offers them a job and a salary of $36,000 per year they turn it down and say they were lowballed with a salary that will not allow them to live the way they want to and pay their student loans. Fact the $36,000 they were offered is above the $32,000 average starting wages for people with that degree, and they were offered an above average starting salary and were not low balled.
If you want to pick and choose today with a salary around $100,000 per year, you should be a petroleum engineer, or one of the better IT fields with specialized training.
Liberal arts or no liberal arts, it still allows you to check the "degree required" box on a job application.

I also graduated in 2012 with a LA degree (sociology) from a top 100 university, and minored in business, with the plan to go to law school after. After doing my due diligence on law school, I decided to pass and try to find a job, and it definitely was not easy. I got my foot in the door working at a law firm, while doing a marketing/creative design internship.
A little over two years later, I work for one of the top investment real estate firms in the country as a Research Analyst, Marketing Specialist and Closing Coordinator for one of the Regional Director's brokerage teams here in Houston, with my own office....at 25.
Not only do I have a pretty good salary for my age, I get bonuses for every deal our team closes, and this year they closed about $238 million. I started out as a Marketing Specialist for corporate in April and got promoted to the positions previously mentioned at the beginning of this month.
The sociology degree helped me get a job, because like someone else said, I was able to put down I got a degree from a pretty good university on my job apps. Then my work experience from college, plus what I gained when I started in the real world helped me get to the point I'm at now. I would've never guessed I ended up here, but I never would've without that 'worthless' degree I got in 2012.
I just love reading these threads about LA majors/graduates, and how they love to take shots at us, when there are so many that are and will be more successful then they'll ever be. As if there's any perfect major out there that doesn't come with its flaws, limitations, expenses, etc.

Not allowed to volunteer in this household. I also can't move up in my library job, sadly... so if I suggested anything, since I don't have the MLIS, they will tell me they will not listen to my considerations unless I have that MLIS. Since I can't go to graduate school in this household, I have to wait until I move for that. I must take something for money AND since I want to move, I don't really want to start something else here except retail because at least with retail I can quit anytime with no strings attached.
