Hey guys,

I've come to a fork in the road of life and I'm not sure what to do. My current situation is this: I took a job out west (with a great company, and it was a promotion or move-up) - my main reason for taking my current job was to live on the west coast where I have friends and family. After 1.5 years I've decided to leave the company (I've asked for a transfer to Houston with no luck, and I don't expect to be transferred) as the job/company has been nothing but stress and problems and I don't think I could last another year. Dreams shattered, as I love living out here.

My fix: move to another job and be happy again - and I will have to move back to Texas. I have two options right now, my fork in the road. Option 1: move back to Houston with my old company (Big Oil), my position would be a promotion from what I had when I left. Houston is what I'd consider home - I have tons of friends and family there and it's where I feel most comfortable. I loved my co-workers and was doing well there - also a great company and they asked me to come back. Option 2: take a position with a major oil company (not Big Oil) in Dallas, the job will be working on major off-shore projects and it's a new and exciting opportunity (something I've wanted to do). I have some family and friends in Dallas, but not like in Houston. Lot's of colleagues have said great things about working for the Dallas company. Both positions are similar in salary/benefits.

I'm early 30s, and just came out of a serious relationship - so I'm single too. I really don't know what to do - I realize I'm getting older, people are getting married with kids etc...so althouh my work will determine most of my decision, life outside work still matters and I'm worried I may have a hard time meeting people in Dallas and starting over. I have some friends in Dallas, but we aren't best friends although I know people who have floated there via the oil industry. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Biz

Option 1 ofcourse because you already worked in the company & have friends, family there. Houston is bigger than Dallas & has more opportunities. And you already consider it home.
