When a report is being reviewed by management and they say "distill it down to its pithy essence", aargh! Pithy sounds like someone with a lisp trying to swear

While reading this thread I put on the evening news, and they were interviewing CEO of GM about a cover-up she replied that she did not think it was a cover up but rather that bits of information were "SILOED". Made me bust out laughing!

This is hilarious! I love Super Mario Bros haha!

Another word I hate: "Engagement" as in "Employee Engagement"

Companies tend to keep throwing this word around to describe that they want employees to keep working hard and put up with the insane about of bullsh&t going on. Usually when people start voluntarily leaving or the company is going through "restructuring" (aka layoffs) they don't want the masses to panic so they try to keep them "engaged" through a variety a mind-numbing initiatives...which ultimately don't work. Want to know how to keep your employees engaged? Pay them what they're worth, treat them with respect and give them opportunity to advance!

Don't forget "drill down". This one gets me, pretty sure were in an office, not on an oil rig.

And when we aren't drilling down, we are supposed to "run it up the flagpole"... I hate that one, too.

When we have exhausted every annoying buzzword, the WSJ has a buzzword generator that can fill the void -

At the end of the day, it is what it is.

I absolutely hated; "team player" !!!!!!!!!! Lost many appetites over that one. Also; "On the same page", uggg. I remember having to sit though a 3 hour presentation on; SYNERGY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I left the corporate world before 2014, but I can't imagine having to deal with new ones AND the old vomit-inducing ones!!!!!!!!!!!

Hard stop
Out of pocket (when used to mean "unavailable").
Flesh it out
In the weeds
Take it offline
Move the needle

"In order to move the needle, we will need to flesh it out. Just be careful not to get too far in the weeds. Let's take this offline, I have a hard stop in 10 minutes then I'm out of pocket the rest of the day."

Translation:

We need to figure out what we're trying to do without actually understanding it. But let's not do it now, I'm leaving early in 10 minutes and don't want to be bothered.
