It depends on the relationship between the manager and you. There's nothing wrong with doing it in person.

Bottom Line: HR was going to his desk, but it was NOT to escort him out of the building. His contract was expiring. They wanted to gauge his interest in working for different teams. HR met with him person to CONVINCE him to renew.

OP is always talking about firing and how it will be so difficult to find work, when he is laid off. He's so focused on that outcome, it may come true.

Inaccurate perceptions often affect job performance. If he doesn't change his world view, he will get laid off sooner than later. Then, he can create a new thread to validate his feelings again.

The point is not letting the person go, but HOW it's done. Causing unnecessary stress is just bad management. Period. How about treating people like people?

It was never about letting him go. They wanted to meet with him to convince him to RENEW, but in a different team. They will want to meet in person to put on their best sales job about a different team. T

I would never do that and the OP shouldn't either.

I have only seen HR escort one person out of the building in 10 years. A male employee grabbed a female co-worker between the legs in front of the whole office. He was reported and escorted.

When they have visited me, they wanted to help me in person with questions about benefits or payroll. I can only assume the visits to other employees are just as mundane.
