My first job was at McDonald's. Age 17. Left 3 months to day of starting.

No regrets.

I was 16 and my first job lasted about 4 months. It was Jack in the Box and i hated my life and was constantly hit on and harassed. I got my second job right after and it was a chain pizza place and i actually got to transfer to a different location when i moved to college so i am still working there and its been about 7 years with around 4 other part time jobs in between! I know when I move at the end of the year i can easily find another chain and transfer to have a for sure job when i move or use them as a great reference for another job. Loyalty is important for employers, but don't let it make you stuck in the same place. Most people arent lucky enough to have such great bosses as I did who are like family now. I will be sad to leave them one day

Not counting babysitting, I stayed at my first job for 32 weeks. I worked in a supermarket at age 14, in the office, on Saturdays, posting accounts payable checks. I earned 50 cents an hour and my Mother made me save half of my paycheck. I got four dollars a pay, and had to put two of it in the bank.

2 years, first professional gig. No need to talk about what I did when I was 16, we had summer jobs for 3 months between semesters.

My high school job, I stayed for a year and a half. My first professional job, a little over three years. I know that traditional wisdom was to change jobs less, but people really need to think about themselves these days. Corporations are certainly doing it.

First job was at a Burger King and that lasted for 4 months. I didn't mind my coworkers and I never left hungry, but the manager and the owners were a bunch of pricks.I'll never work a fast food job again.

OP,
As you see, many posters only stayed a few months in their first jobs. Then, they moved on to the next step in their career.

Don't worry about staying 1-2 years to "do your time". If a new employer wants to lure you away for more money, you take it.
