Is it true that the high school diploma isn't worth anything anymore nowadays?

If you didn't have it then you would have 100% nothing.

that's not true, not even close to being true. Around here, really good paying factory jobs wont even look at you if you don't have your diploma. plus you need that to get in the military as well.

Good grammar is at least as important as a high school diploma and will probably get you further in the long run.

If you don't even have a high school diploma, most employers won't even bother interviewing you.

Maybe your school district sucked. HS was, and still is what you make of it. Most young people don't take advantage of what a good HS curriculum can offer though. When I was in HS, I took advantage of the higher level classes offered. I recall taking classes covering algebra, trig and calculus before graduating. I took AP U.S. and world history, chemistry and biology. I believe I took an advanced placement reading class as well, although it could have been writing.

I would say the tax payers got their money's worth in my case. I went to a good school where the teachers cared about the future of their students. Of course, it was up to each and every student to make the effort to succeed. We also had a good vocational satellite school where young people could learn skills that can pay the bills. We had autobody, machine shop, cooking, computer technology, etc. Three years of machine shop class got me my first job, which paid more than twice as much as my burger flipping peers were making.

This thread may be applicable to someone who just floated through school with no direction. Of course, there are people who do the same thing when they get to college, and they often end up with the same end result. Start taking your education seriously though and it can take you far.

Every job I have applied for had at least a HS diploma as a requirement.
