I must have been laid off over a hundred times and never saw such events. And I worked in places like nuclear power plants, refineries, chemical plants, weapons plants and laboratories. But I built and maintained the places, I didn't have a list of the customers.

I get a feeling of schadenfreude seeing white collar workers being treated like dogs.

Why? That sounds terrible. I'd personally never feel joy over anyone being terminated, unless they did something bad. I've worked in both blue collar and white collar roles.

I agree - its a ridiculous practice that hasn't accomplished anything.

Yeah, but remember the crazy shoe bomb guy? If the government stopped checking shoes and some guy shoe bombed a plane there'd be the Devil to pay. People demand protection while at the same time resenting it.

I had to escort someone out once as a security guard. I had to tell him too, that was oh so much fun!

I would probably want to punch the security guard in the face for playing such a huge role in making me look foolish

The one time I was terminated, I was escorted out all the way to my car and they made sure I returned my parking and flight pass. Why would a person keep any of those knowing they would be deactivated anyway?!

Exactly, especially if you are in an at-will state I do not understand why the security guard took so much joy in that when any day he could have found himself in the exact same situation. That is the type of nonsense that agitates a situation that may cause a newly terminated individual to become irate.

Just remember that karma is watching with binoculars and a notepad.
