This clip will show you why you may not have gotten hired or why you might get fired: 20/20 Season 31 Episode 102 | Full TV Episode Online - ABC.com Maybe that's why I hate watching the news, they can depress anyone and make a pessimist out of a usually optimistic person like me!

Oh, the clip starts around 20:35.

I agree that you must "kiss-ass" or play office politics in order to get ahead. The lady was saying that if you did this than you would be kept off the lay-off list even if your performance wasn't good. I've seen it happen at my prior jobs where the butt kissers would get ahead WELL I'M DONE PLAYING THE NICE GUY!!!! If this is how it's played than I will beat them at their own game. It's a sad world we live in so from now on at all my jobs I will kiss so much ass that even soap couldn't clean my mouth.

LET'S PLAY!!!!

Totally, stuffed with ads. Who wants to wait around for that?

20/20 is so tabloidish now as compared to 10 years ago or so, I can hardly stand to watch any of it.

Yep, if that is what she said, it is true. Basically, the more likeable you are, the more likely you get to stick around in tough times at a job. You have to put on a poker face at work and be fake-nice as much as possible to keep your job, no matter how good your work ethic is or not.

One good thing about TV: No one forces you to watch anything you hate.

Well betweening the dysfunctional HR/software run hiring process and the cronyism and politics at work it is no wonder companies are constantly complaining about a shortage of competent employees. Dysfunctional and stupidity in all parts of the process.
