Would you work again for a company that laid you off? (employee, interview)

I'm curious to see if I'm my thinking is aligned with others or if I'm completely left field on this.
I was recently laid off (no worries, I have another job that I start Monday) and I had my exit interview today with HR. One of the questions they asked me was if I would work there again.
My gut said HECK NO! Why would I work for a company that laid me off? It happened once, so there's nothing saying it wouldn't happen again. However, I didn't really tell them that - I just said that I would consider it.
Am I thinking crazy on this? Is there any circumstance that any of you would consider working for a previous employer that let you go for financial reasons (nothing performance related)?
It seems like you have a grudge against the company for laying you off. They aren't firing you; they are laying you off. It's nothing against you personally. They just don't need your services anymore or have low cash flow.
I don't understand why you wouldn't work for them again if there was a good fit for you available.
That being said, I would absolutely work for a company that laid me off if there is an ideal position available. I understand that the expansion of contraction of an organization are normal business functions and I don't a grudge against them for this.
Being laid off is water under the bridge. In fact, some companies give priority to those who have been laid off. Your benefits may be bridged for example.
So, of course I would consider it. It all depends on what is best for me at any point in time.
Should a company rehire someone who resigned in the past? Typically a resignation is because an employee DID find something better. Getting laid off isn't necessarily because the company found someone better to replace the employee.
Definitely yes. I was laid off from my previous job although I had a new job lined up. I will probably go back to my former company at some point. I loved working for them, loved my colleagues, and loved the work. Our product was shuttered so all of us were let go. It happens.
Perhaps if I were laid off as a onesie or in a handful because my past experience has been that unless it is a large layoff, layoffs are commonly used by management to let go the weaker members if a team. If that had happened to me I would feel that I was not regarded highly and would just move on.
You all know that in the past lay-offs and call backs were what happened, right? You'd get laid off, usually by seniority, business would improve and you'd get called back. There wasn't any "I won't go back when they call, they laid me off once and they might do it again".
If I was unemployed, I'd take it in a heartbeat. If I had a decent, livable wage job, I'd think about it, and compare, knowing they could lay me off again.

I agree on the once bitten twice shy take on it. However, I think that was the right response as you likely retained the positive reference.
You can get laid off anywhere; if I needed a job and a company which laid me off in the past was willing to hire me, I'd take it.
