Okay I am a waitress. I started working there about 5 weeks ago. I sound terrible and have a blocked nose. Not sure if it's a great idea if I come to work sick. The ony thing, would it harm my chances having a sick day so early in my waitressing job? I have never had a sick day in my life on an employed job. I would work like this normally, but it might be bad working as a waitress sick. So they would probably not like it if I came into work anyway. Hmm can't win :/

What you could do is call up your boss and explain just that -- that you would work and normally with other jobs you did work with symptoms but aren't sure what their policies are on being sick and waiting on customers -- put the ball in their court.

I say come in, and let them send you home. Thats what I always did in jobs I had no sick time. They cant really complain if theyre the ones who made the call.

If you make the decision, and just call out, I wouldnt be surprised if they fired you on the spot.

Bad Idea to go to work sick, especially when you handle food. A blocked nose is not the flu. The flu is a bad cough and body aches. If you had the flu, you'd be in bed. If you have a cold, and your nose isn't running like a faucet, go to work. If you think you have a sinus infection, go to the doctor.

Please don't go to work sick. Being sick is your problem don't spread it to others.
