Unbelievable. Saw this on CNN today. Regular women with skills working with kids and finding a family they will be loyal to and care for the kids every day, totally. Some are bi lingual. Most have degrees. Here is a way to make unbelievable income, if you like kids.
I've worked from some very wealthy families. Not as a nanny though. And yes, they will pay very well for what they want, but you must be the best and have impeccable references and skills.
The reason these nannies charge so much is because:
-- They have perfect references and extensive skills.
-- They have the connections via their previous employers to set up the "best" play dates for the kids, in other words the kids of other super rich people.
-- They commit to having no personal life during their employment, so that if their employer decides on the spur of the moment to go out, the nanny is on call 24/7/365.
Not many people meet these requirements, hence the high cost.

That's the main reason some nannies get paid so much. It's not a typical 8 - 5, M - F type gig. Although the money sounds nice, I would much rather live my own life than watch others live theirs.

That is true, and it's not just the super rich, but even people making $200,000 that love their career but want the best for their kids. I wouldn't suggest changing careers expecting to make that much, however. Those making $100,000 have usually been offered more and more to be stolen away from their current family because they are really good. Many a friendship has been ruined in affluent areas by hiring away a friend's nanny, but to those that do it it's worth it.
