I see this thrown around a lot and I'm confused as to what exactly constitutes as a "corporate job".

What defines a "corporate job" and which of the following are corporate jobs?

1) A software engineer at Google.

2) An accountant for a local accounting firm.

3) A middle manager at GE.

4) A marketing executive at Ford

If none of these are "corporate jobs", please give some examples. Thanks.

well, the way it seems to be used is in contrast to a small business or "creative"/cutting edge job. In vernacular, I think examples 2,3,4 would be seen as "corporate" by many people

I wouldnt call the accountant at a local firm a corporate job unless that local firm is bigger than a medium sized firm.

I would consider the other jobs corporate based on who they work for.

Wouldn't a corporate job be a job at a corporation? Thus 1,3 and 4 qualify. Don't have enough information on 2.

I wouldn't think in all cases. For example, my job is with a corporation. It just happens to be a corporation I own and that employs me, myself, and I. I wouldn't consider what I do to be a corporate job. You've got to have that monolithic corporate drone element to it which just isn't there. For the same reason, an engineer at Google or Twitter or working with IGN (I know a few guys who do, awesome work environment) I wouldn't classify as corporate job. Working for Microsoft, on the other hand, I would.

3 and 4 are definitely corporate jobs, 2 might be. I interned with Moss Adams. They're huge, but also very much an outgrown local accounting firm. Different than working for PCW, but still very much a corporate job.
