I am glad to have, after many years, a good pay and pension and an end in sort of sight. I could happily stop doing the job yesterday and it would be like a distant old dream.
It isn't hell except on a really bad night, and for a few months at the beginning, I felt I'd found a calling, loved it, etc. (That phase ends after about six months or a year).
I am a skilled professional. I like some of the people I see at work very much (but that's why I work third shift...).
If I could afford to not work, I'd leave smoke going out the door. I've had enough, working full-time at many things since age 16. I'm done, stick a fork in me. (I prefer secular descriptions!)
Hahaha, that's my expression, too. I feel the same way. I could leave today and never look back.
Where I work at for my full-time job, we were supposed to be paid every other Friday, but we had to wait until after the weekend to get our recent paychecks. A couple years ago, the boss refused to pay extra time, so any overtime or straight time is added to the employees' vacation time. Many people have quit over the years, and the morale at the company is terrible.
I am happier at my other job (part-time retail) than I am at my full-time job. The boss has so many overdue bills, and the boss only pays an invoice when he absolutely needs the vendor. Some vendors simply don't want to do business with this company anymore. To make matters worse, anyone who still works at this company five years from now will probably get paid the exact same amount of money as they are paid today.
Work is not hell but living everyday at 5pm feels like heaven. I often wonder why our society created this Mon through Friday, 40-hour commitments? I'd be so much happier with a 4-day week. Its getting to the point where while I'm here, I feel mildly depressed.
